Q: What’s the difference between Herbal Meal and Classic Meal? A: The ingredients in Herbal and Classic Meals are the same, but Herbal Meal include a daily Chinese herbal soup to help mothers replenish blood, boost energy, reduce dampness and swelling, and detoxify. These soups are designed to gradually improve the mother’s condition from a traditional Chinese medicine perspective, systematically building a strong foundation for healthy recovery postpartum. |
Q: Do meals differ for natural vs. cesarean births? A: No, our postpartum meals are designed to support recovery regardless of the birth method. They focus on principles of nourishment such as replenishing energy, warming the uterus, aiding digestive health, avoiding “cold-natured foods”, and emphasizing overall wellness. |
Q: Can I try the meals before ordering? A: Yes, we offer three ways to sample our postpartum meals: join our free tasting party at our central kitchen, enjoy a discounted home delivery trial, or try our out-of-state frozen meal with just the cost of shipping. |
Q: Is it necessary to drink herbal soups? A: It is recommended to order Herbal meal if you are able to accept the concept of Chinese traditional medicine. Herbal soups support the body’s natural healing process. However, whether to include these in your diet should be based on personal health conditions and medical advice. |
Q: Do I need to drink Sheng Hua Tang? A: Sheng Hua Tang is a traditional Chinese herbal decoction made from ingredients like Angelica sinensis (Dong quai), Ligusticum chuanxiong (Szechuan lovage), Leonurus (motherwort), and peach kernel. Its name translates to ‘life-renewing soup,’ and it’s designed to promote the body’s natural recovery process. It primarily works by facilitating uterine contraction and recovery, speeding up the clearance of lochia, improving blood circulation, and regulating menstruation to help women regain their health. However, whether to consume Sheng Hua Tang should be determined based on individual constitution and the advice of a doctor. |
Q: What if I don’t plan to breastfeed? A: We can customize your meal plan to exclude ingredients that promote lactation, such as pig’s feet and green papaya. |
Q: What if I have allergies or dietary restrictions? A: We prioritize dietary safety and preferences, avoiding allergens or disliked ingredients and providing nutritious alternatives. This might, however, lead to repetition in the meal rotation. |
Q: I have gestational diabetes; will this affect my postpartum period? A: Gestational diabetes is usually diagnosed during pregnancy and, in most cases, tends to resolve naturally after childbirth. To aid in blood sugar management, we recommend diluting or halving the intake of desserts and nourishing drinks that contain brown sugar. We strongly advise consulting with your doctor to ensure the chosen meals align with your health condition and nutritional needs. |
Q: How to make adjustments to my meal plan? A: For any adjustments, contact our customer service (909)910-0285 by noon the day before your next scheduled meal. |
Q: I had high blood pressure during pregnancy; can I eat postpartum meals? A: Our postpartum meals are low in salt and high in fiber, which can aid in blood pressure management. They include high-quality protein sources such as nourishing fish and chicken soups that are beneficial for the heart and spleen. We recommend consulting with your doctor to ensure the selected meal aligns with your health condition and nutritional needs. |
Q: How many people can the postpartum meal serve? Can I share it with my family? A: The postpartum meal is primarily designed for one postpartum woman, but the portion is quite generous. You can share it with your family; however, since everyone’s appetite varies, it’s best to base it on your personal experience. |
Q: Heating instructions? A: Meals can be microwaved directly or transferred to a pot for steaming or boiling, ensuring they reach a safe temperature of at least 165°F (74°C). |
Q: Will breakfast be delivered on time? A: Given our preparation and delivery schedule, breakfast items may not arrive in time for morning consumption. We recommend storing these meals in the refrigerator for enjoyment the following day. |
Q: Why do I need to take Chinese medicine for a month? A: A complete 30-day period is not only traditionally considered essential, but it also holds significant medical and psychological importance. During this time, the carefully curated Chinese herbal medicines in our postpartum meals are designed to support the body’s recovery after childbirth. The uterus and other reproductive organs need time to heal and adjust post-delivery. The 30-day duration aligns with the natural physiological recovery cycle, ensuring the healing process is gradual and comprehensive. Chinese medicine not only supports physical health but also provides a psychological buffer for new mothers, helping them find balance in their new lifestyle and roles. |
Q: Are frozen meals fresh? A: Freezing is a common preservation method in modern life that can maintain the freshness of food to a certain extent. By lowering the temperature, freezing significantly slows down bacterial growth and the spoilage process, thereby extending the shelf life of the food. When meals are quickly frozen, their nutritional content, flavor, and texture are locked in and can be well-preserved until thawed. However, freezing is not a cure-all; some foods may experience changes in texture or taste after being frozen. Despite these limitations, freezing is still an effective way to preserve the freshness of meals without significantly compromising their nutritional value. |
Q: How to heat frozen meals? A: Before consumption, please cut open the packaging bag and place the meal into a microwave-safe dish or a container suitable for steaming or boiling. This allows for heating and consuming. To reduce the heating time required on the day of eating, you can transfer the next day’s meal to the refrigerator to thaw overnight, ensuring it’s ready for easier and quicker heating the following day. |

Delivery |
Q: Is my home within your delivery area? A: We generally cover areas where many Chinese communities reside in the Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and OC areas. For remote areas, delivery might be less frequent (e.g., every two days) and may incur additional shipping surcharges. If delivery isn’t feasible, frozen postpartum meals are an alternative. |
Q: When will meals be delivered to my home? A: Deliveries usually arrive by noon. Our chefs start cooking at 5:00 AM, and drivers begin deliveries at 8:30 AM. Delivery times can vary based on the route and day-to-day conditions. |
Q: How do I pause delivery? A: If you have special requests or need to pause your delivery, please inform our customer service by noon the day before. |
Q: Can meals be delivered to the hospital? A: After the pandemic, we stopped delivering meals directly to hospitals. This decision was made both for the health of our drivers and to avoid delays that could affect subsequent deliveries. If you wish to have postpartum meals while in the hospital, we can deliver them to your home, and then your family members can bring them to the hospital for you to enjoy. |
Q: How often are frozen meals shipped? A: Frozen meals are shipped weekly, covering seven days of meals, from Monday to Thursday via FedEx Priority Overnight. You’ll receive a FedEx tracking number for real-time updates. |
